Persons who want to interpret but have yet to achieve national certification, take the Michigan QA screening to determine their beginning to intermediate levels. If a person passes the QA screening, they obtain a QA I, QA II, or QA III level, with the QA III being the highest. Nationally certified interpreters have a higher level of skill, larger sign vocabulary, usually have more education, and have more experience as an interpreter. National certification is accepted in every state and strongly recommended for legal, life-threatening, mental health, and highly complex situations. Try to get the highest skilled interpreter available for the situation.
