Lisa Peeples-Hurst, of St. Joseph, is currently a Certified Prevention Specialist at the Berrien County Health Department. She is also the Benton Harbor Project Coordinator for Generation With Promise. In addition, she serves as the Berrien County Designated Youth Tobacco Use Representative (DYTUR) and is a Certified Clinic Facilitator for the Freedom from Smoking Program.
A mother of three, and a native of Benton Harbor, Ms. Peeples-Hurst attended Benton Harbor High School and received her undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in Audiology and Speech Sciences. Since receiving her undergraduate degree, Ms. Peeples-Hurst has been an extremely active member of her community, serving in leadership positions for organizations such as the Community Alliance Against Substance Abuse, the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and the Twin City Area Branch of the NAACP.
Ms. Peeples-Hurst has received several honors for her community involvement including an award for outstanding service in improving race relations from the Race Relations Council of Southwest Michigan and the Freedom Award from the Twin City Area Branch of the NAACP.
Ms. Peeples-Hurst is dedicated to being a strong and vocal advocate for underserved and special populations. She brings a great compassion to her position, and is whole-heartedly dedicated to the MCRC's mission to prevent discrimination and lift the disenfranchised. Her term officially started May 28, 2008.
