Today the Department of Civil Rights released the below statement regarding Michigan Indian Week, designated as the fourth week in September.
"Proclaiming Michigan Indian Week honors both the contributions and sacrifices of the Native people in our state and nation. Native Americans offer us a history that is rich with honor and tradition. We urge residents to step outside of their comfort zones and get to know the Native organizations in their local communities. Michigan is strongest when it values both the things that make us different and what we have in common."
