On June 9, 2004, the Michigan Women’s Commission hosted the first of three public hearings that will offer Michigan residents and organizations the opportunity to speak about issues impacting women in the state.
A variety of Michigan organizations spoke at the hearing, which was held at Wayne County Community College District’s Downtown location. Issues that were addressed included pay equity, domestic violence and high risk situations for women, education for women, mentoring for young women, women’s health, transgender discrimination and second parent adoption.
The commission appreciates those who showed their support by attending and those who spoke on behalf of Michigan women by sharing their testimony. A summary of the testimonies from the day can be read by click here.
The commission received written testimony from most of the speakers. If you would like a copy of the testimony from any particular organization, please contact the commission at MDCR-womenscomm@michigan.gov or call (517) 373-2884.
The next public hearing will be held on September 8 at the Eberhard Center on the Grand Valley State University campus in Grand Rapids. The third hearing will be on December 8 in Lansing.
