Tom Wilson, Wyandotte, Michigan, is married, two grown children, four grandchildren, working at Detroit Edison, since 1969, two year business degree. Tom has been an active leader in real estate, public schools and community involvement.
Tom has seen the treatment disparity between male and female's in high school sports. Due to this, the 1998 rash of rapes of Detroit school girls and the GHB death of Samantha Reid of Gibraltar, Tom sought a greater role seeking better treatment of women.
In 1998 Tom began M GET, www.mi-gender-equity.com) and the local FAAB nonprofit. Through M GET, Tom created a web site, e-mail list serve and began active relationships (CFE, AAUW and NOW, etc.). Through FAAB, Tom has distributed over $50,000 of scholarship money to graduating female athletes.
Tom served; on 2001 state Blue Ribbon Panel, local AAUW 2002 "Woman of Year" recipient, local NOW Annual Achievements for Women Award recipient 2003, Baha'i Committee on the Equality of Men and Women 2003-4, on MCADSV/DHS state task force to create a state DV and SV prevention plan (2006 to now). Tom was nominated and received the Phillip A. Hart award, from the Michigan Women's Studies Association, 2008. Tom has sought ways to engage men to reconsider their views of and behavior towards women.
