Governor John Engler announced today the appointment of Judy Garland as the Vice Chair of the Michigan Women''s Commission. The MWC works to improve the quality of life for women in the state.
"Judy has a long history of community service with such organizations as the Middle Michigan Development Corporation, the United Way of Isabella County, Michigan Works!, and the Mt. Pleasant Area Chamber of Commerce," said Governor Engler. "Her record of achievement makes her a tremendous asset to the Michigan Women''s Commission."
Special honors bestowed upon Ms. Garland include Who''s Who Among Top Executives from 1998-1999, winner of the Inspire Your Employees to Excellence Competition in 1998, and the Business Achievement Award of 1999 by the Isabella Disability Advisory Committee.
"The experience and commitment Judy brings to the Commission will be a great contribution to our work to improve the lives of women in the state of Michigan," said Anne Norlander, Chair of the Michigan Women''s Commission.
"It's wonderful to see Judy receive this position, as I know she has spent years dedicated to the advancement of women," added Rep. Sandra Caul (R-Mt. Pleasant).
Ms. Garland, of Mount Pleasant, is the CEO of Mid Michigan Industries, and has been appointed to serve as the vice chair for a term expiring July 15, 2001.
