MDCR and MDE Issue Joint Letter on Immigration Enforcement Activity and Schools

A Letter from State Superintendent Brian Whiston and Michigan Department of Civil Rights Director Agustin Arbulu

On Friday, March 31, the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and the Michigan Department of Education sent a joint letter to all public, private and charter school administrators in Michigan, urging them to seek legal counsel, review their duties to all students under state and federal law, and to plan now for the possibility that law enforcement might seek their assistance in their effort to find, detain and deport undocumented immigrants.
