Susy Avery has served as Director of State Government Relations for the Wayne County Airport Authority, Senior Government Consultant for Strategic Federal Affairs, Director of Institutional Advancement for The Henry Ford-Greenfield Village, Director of Public Affairs for Governor John Engler, Director of Travel and Tourism for the State of Michigan, and Director of the Governor's Southeast Michigan office. She has also been an elected Wayne County Commissioner and was elected Clerk and Supervisor of Northville Township. She served as Chair of the Rouge River Watershed Council and as the first Executive Director of the Conference of Western Wayne.
She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the Board of Directors for the Automobile National Heritage Area, Board of Directors of SEMCOG, Hines Park Task Force, and Alumni Board of Directors for the University of Michigan-Dearborn, along with various task forces.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and she has won numerous civic and humanitarian awards including the Award of Excellence from the State of Michigan Aeronautics Commission and the President's Award from the Michigan Association of Airport Executives.
