You and your eligible dependents may choose any licensed practicing dentist on a treatment-by-treatment basis. Certain dentists throughout Michigan have signed a preferred provider organization (PPO) agreement to receive payment directly from Delta Dental under the State of Michigan PPO plan. The dentists who sign these agreements are called PPO member dentists.

You can receive dental treatment from the dentist of your choice, regardless of whether or not that dentist is a PPO member dentist. If you choose to go to a non-PPO member dentist, you will be covered under the State of Michigan Standard plan, which is a standard fee-for-service program. However, your out-of-pocket costs will usually be lower if you receive treatment from a PPO member dentist. This is because your level of coverage may be higher in the State of Michigan PPO plan than in the State of Michigan Standard plan.
