February is Month:
Cardiovascular Disease is PUBLIC ENEMY # 1
Heart disease is the #1 killer of BOTH men & women in Michigan and across the United States! Yet, many people, especially women, do not realize the risk of this happening to them or one of their loved ones. The good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented in BOTH women and men.
The American Heart Association's "Go Red For Women" @ www.goredforwomen.org/ was created to help people:
learn about the #1 ENEMY
know their numbers and
keep their numbers in check: Go Red Heart CheckUp.

Making Good Food Choices
Healthy food choices can help reduce the risk factors for heart attack and stroke (high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and excess body weight). Shop the perimeter of the store to enjoy foods that are nutritionally-rich (Nutrient-dense/rich foods provide substantial amounts of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, and relatively few calories.):
Following a heart-healthy diet also means drinking alcohol in moderation - no more than two drinks a day for men and one drink daily for women. Plus drink more water.
"A healthy diet and lifestyle are the best weapons you have to fight cardiovascular disease. It's not as hard as you may think!...it is the overall pattern of the choices you make that counts," says the American Heart Association (AHA).
Creating a healthy lifestyle (move more - eat better - don't use tobacco products) doesn't have to mean drastic changes! In fact, drastic changes almost always lead to failure. Making small changes in how you live each day can lead to big rewards, so figure out what you can to LOVE YOUR HEART.
