How Productive are You?
Sleeping difficulties affect our energy level and mood, and also our health. A good night's sleep helps bolster our immune system, improves mental alertness and concentration, helps lessen the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure and depression, gives the body time to repair damage, and helps reduce stress on the body.
Sleep is important to our overall health and well-being.
Simple tips for a GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP:
- Avoid caffeine starting in the afternoon
- Avoid alcohol in the evening
- Relax - stop working at least one hour before bedtime
- Regular exercise improves sleep, just not 3 hours before bedtime
- Keep your bedroom quiet, dark and at a comfortable temperature - only use for sex and sleep
- Don't go to bed hungry YET avoid heavy meals before bedtime
- No nicotine before bedtime; it is a stimulant
- Avoid napping
- Keep a schedule; go to bed and wake up at the same time daily
- Avoid watching TV, discussing emotional issues and eating in bed
If you are still having trouble sleeping after trying some of these suggestions, tell your doctor about it. There may be an underlying medical condition that is causing your sleep problem.
