DRAFT AMENDMENTS TO VETERANS' PREFERENCE RULE
| The Civil Service Commission adopted veterans' preference in World War II as mechanism to help persons drafted into the armed forces return to the civilian workforce. The hiring preference was not made available to persons who elected military careers and retired from the armed forces.
The Civil Service Commission has received a number of requests to now make the veterans' hiring preference available to persons who have retired from the uniformed services. The attached draft revisions to Rule 3-8 would, if adopted by the Commission, make veterans' preference available to persons who have retired from the uniformed services.
The Civil Service Commission will consider the proposed amendments at its next meeting, scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2009, Capitol Commons Center, 400 S. Pine Street, Lansing.
Comments regarding the proposed amendments may be addressed to Janet McClelland, Chief Deputy Director, Civil Service Commission, P.O. Box 30002, Lansing, Michigan, 48909, or e mail at McClellandJ@Michigan.gov. Comments must be received by Wednesday, March 4, 2009.
