Workforce Planning

Welcome to the MI Strategic Workforce Planning page. The following pages are provided as a resource and guide to State of Michigan departments as they develop their strategic workforce plans. MI Strategic Workforce Planning is critical for departments in creating a better government to serve the citizens of Michigan "having the right people at the right place at the right time."

State Workforce Plan
The State of Michigan must continuously look for opportunities to realign, redefine and redesign government to better serve its citizens. An organization's success depends on having "the right people at the right place at the right time." Having 33.5 percent of the state workforce eligible to retire by 2013 has the potential to significantly impact the services provided by state government. A systematic process of planning for the workforce of tomorrow is needed. Click here to view the 2009 State of Michigan Strategic Workforce Plan.

Agency Workforce Initiatives
Agency plans reported on workforce goals, gaps and gap-closing strategies, demographic data, economic conditions and common issues. Because every agency offered different services, state departments were encouraged to develop their workforce planning processes that met their organization's particular needs. Consequently, their findings were unique to their organizations.
