State Fiscal Stabilization Fund

Total Funding Available to Michigan: Estimated to be $1,592,138,132; 81.8% of the funding must be used for elementary, secondary, and higher education; 18.2% may be used for public safety and other government services.

Date Available: Fifty percent of the funding will be available July 1, 2009 and 50 percent of the funding will be available July 1, 2010.

Program Information:
The Governor must apply for these funds. The first priority of the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund allocation is to restore school aid funding in each of fiscal years 2009, 2010, and 2011 to the greater level of FY 2008 or FY 2009 levels; and funding for public higher education institutions to the higher level of FY 2008 or FY 2009. The amount of funding for each of the initiatives has not yet been determined. Information on the distribution of the remaining funds will be available soon. Applications will be submitted through the Michigan Electronic Grants System (MEGS).

Grant Information: Funds not distributed to meet the restoration requirement will be distributed to local education agencies using the Title I formula. Details on the application method and distribution of funds will be provided when additional guidance is received from USED.
