The Clare-Gladwin Middle College is a collaborative partnership with Mid Michigan Community College, MidMichigan Health, and the Clare-Gladwin RESD serving students from five local school districts. Our advisory board is comprised of representatives from:

–Clare-Gladwin RESD
–Central Michigan Community Hospital
–Mid Michigan Community College
–Local schools
–MidMichigan Health
–Local businesses

The advisory board meets once every two months for review of progress and direction for the future of the middle college.

For the fall of 2009 the Clare-Gladwin Middle College has 29 students enrolled in various healthcare programs on the campus of Mid Michigan Community College. Students have indicated the following career interests and enrolled in the following career paths: Pre-Professional track (5), Nursing (14), Physical Therapy (1), Radiology (6), Pharmacy Tech (1) and Lab Tech (2).

Students spend 1/2 of their school day on campus participating in 2 college classes per semester and earning up to 27 college credits during their junior and senior years. Part of the students' time is dedicated to working on Lifelong Learning Skills, which are designed to help students make the transition on to a college campus and provide the soft skills that will ensure proper work ethics. At the end of each college semester our students participate in tours of various healthcare facilities along with a job shadowing experience in their specific career field.

Our mentors work in the buildings of our local school districts and meet with students and teachers on a regular basis as they continue to track students' academic performance. Our mentors are constantly looking for the warning signs that indicate a problem and are prepared for various levels of intervention depending on the situation. Mentoring and tutoring students is a vital component to the success of our students and the middle college itself.

The Healthcare Club (HCC) activities start in the 9th grade with the focus on career exploration and exposure to healthcare careers through guest speakers, tours of local healthcare businesses, and various activities. Our 10th grade students still participate in exploration but the exploration is focused more to the individual's choice of a specific healthcare career. In this level of the healthcare career club we also focus on learning styles and study techniques in preparation for the college classes that the students will be taking for their junior and senior years. We are working with over 100 students in the HCC and provide tutoring for students that are struggling academically.
