The Early College Alliance(sm) (ECA) is located on the campus of Eastern Michigan University (EMU), is partnered with EMU's College of Health and Human Services and EMU's Division of Academic Affairs. The ECA’s emphasis in math, science, technology, critical thinking and problem solving is designed to equip successful ECA graduates to enter a variety of high-demand areas in the fields of health, medicine, mathematics, science, technology or business and/or successfully continue their post-secondary education.
Begun in the fall of 2007 with 45 students, an additional 136 students in grades 9 and 10 are enrolled for the 2008-09 school year. The program enables students to complete their requirements for a high school diploma while earning up to 60 college credits from Eastern Michigan University.
At first, students are grouped together on campus for a traditional school day, taking high school classes in math, science, social studies and English. Then they transition into a blended school and eventually become full-time college students, taking university courses throughout campus. Students receive support from a CORE adviser/mentor who is assigned to them for the duration of their career at the ECA.
The ECA community partners include: Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Eastern Michigan University, St. Joseph Mercy Health System, University of Michigan Health System, Ypsilanti Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Works! and the school districts of: Ypsilanti, Milan, Lincoln Consolidated and Whitmore Lake.
