Henry Ford Early College (HFEC) is a five-year combination of high school and college focused on health careers. The curriculum combines high school classes with college courses enabling the student to graduate with a high school diploma and potentially an Associate of Applied Science degree in the Pharmacy Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiographer, Respiratory Therapist, or Surgical Technologist programs. The college classes are taken under the auspices of dual enrollment at no additional cost to the student. HFEC is open to any Wayne County high school student with an interest in the health careers.
HFEC is a collaboration between Dearborn Public Schools, Henry Ford Community College (HFCC), and Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) and utilizes the campuses of both HFCC and HFHS. The 9th grade curriculum consists of all high school classes, with emphasis on math, science, and health careers. During the 9th and 10th grades students spend one day per week at Henry Ford Health System for career exploration and clinical observations. Students will gradually be introduced to college classes, and their schedules in grades 12 and 13 will be primarily HFCC coursework and clinical rotations.
In 2009, HFEC has added the following programs for students:
