Casandra E. Ulbrich, Ph.D.
Casandra Ulbrich, Ph.D. (D-Rochester Hills) was elected to the State Board of Education in 2006 and re-elected in 2014 to serve a second eight-year term expiring January 1, 2023. She currently serves as the Co-President of the Board.
Casandra has spent the majority of her career in higher education administration. She currently serves as the Vice President for College Advancement and Community Relations at Macomb Community College, where she oversees the college's marketing and communications, public relations, cultural affairs and the foundation. Before joining Macomb Community College in 2011, Casandra was employed at Wayne State University for over ten years, serving in various administrative positions, including Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Previously, Casandra served as a Press Secretary to former U.S. House Democratic Whip David Bonior, acting as the official spokesperson for the Congressman.
Casandra is the Past President of the Women Officials Network, an organization dedicated to increasing women's participation in elective and appointive office regardless of party affiliation. She currently serves on the board of Healthy Neighborhoods Detroit, and is an active volunteer K-9 handler with Search and Rescue of Michigan and Tri State Search and Recovery.
Casandra has been recognized as one of Michigan's 40 under 40 by Crain's Detroit Business, received the Service to Schools Award by the Macomb ISD, the Liberty Bell Award from the Macomb Bar Foundation and is the recipient of an honorary degree from her alma mater, St. Clair County Community College.
The first in her family to attend college, Casandra earned an Associates Degree from St. Clair County Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), a Masters Degree in Communication from Wayne State University in Detroit, and a Ph.D. in Communication, also from Wayne State University.
She and her husband reside in Rochester Hills with their dog, Gryphon.
