State Board Moves Up Its November Meeting to Discuss Urgent School Financing Issues

October 21, 2009

LANSING - The State Board of Education has moved up its regularly scheduled November meeting in order to address the urgent issue of public school financing. The meeting will be a public policy discussion regarding budget and fiscal policies to support funding for preK-12 and higher education.

Originally slated for November 10, the State Board now will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 26 in the State Board Room on the fourth floor of the Hannah Building, 608 West Allegan Street, Lansing.

"With a School Aid budget enacted that cut spending to schools by $165 per pupil, and a revenue forecast that most likely will result in another cut in funding later this year, this matter is too urgent to put off for even another two weeks," said State Board President Kathleen N. Straus.

There will be no State Board meeting on Tuesday, November 10.
