Bus Driver Medical Examination Questions
|
- Who can complete an annual physical examination for a bus driver?
The driver shall be examined by a licensed physician, physician's assistant, or certified nurse practitioner and shall present the medical certificate to the employer.
|
- Can an employer require that a bus driver receive more than one physical examination a year? If so, who is responsible for payment?
Yes. An employer who has reason to believe that a driver is not physically qualified to drive may require a physical examination for that driver at more frequent intervals. If an employer requests a physical examination, the employer shall indicate in writing what physical impairment the driver is to be examine for and is responsible for payment of the examination. |
- Can a medical examiner certify a school bus driver's medical fitness for less than one year?
Yes. There is no provision which prohibits a medical examiner from certifying a school bus driver's medical fitness for less than a one year period. If the medical examiner determines that there is a condition which would warrant a new physical examination in less than the one year timeline, the examiner can complete medical certificate (blue card) using a shorter duration than one year. |
