    Application Process for Specialty School under 380.1278a

    Use:  for high school that wishes to be designated by the superintendent of public instruction as a specialty school, exempting students of the school from the graduation requirements of 4 credits in English language arts and 3 credits in social science required under subsection 1278(1)(a)(ii).

    Using the Specialty Schools Designation application and the Application Rubric as a guide, submit evidence in each area.  Please include a letter of support for becoming a specialty school from the school board. 

    Deadline:  Please allow at least six weeks between the sending of the document and the receipt of approval to be designated as a specialty school.

    Send application and all supporting evidence to: Office of the Superintendent, Michigan Department of Education, PO Box 30008 , Lansing , MI 48909
