This year's workshop will be Tuesday – Thursday, May 15-17 in Bellaire at Shanty Creek Resort, Summit Village. For the conference fee, attendees receive expert instruction on library administration and structure, hot library law topics and alternatives to the Dewey Decimal system. This conference is geared for library staff who have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use at the desk. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome. The Library of Michigan's Beginning Workshop is obligatory for anyone seeking an initial Level 4 certificate and is also needed for an initial Level 3 certificate. Library of Michigan Beginning Workshop attendance is valid for the initial application for certification for five years after the date of attendance. Attendance at the Beginning Workshop does not provide automatic certification.
