Registration for the 2012 Loleta Fyan Small & Rural Libraries Conference: Connect, Collaborate, Create is now open!
The Rural Libraries Conference has provided a forum for the staff, trustees, and advocates of Michigan’s small and rural libraries to share, learn and be inspired to provide the best library service to their communities since 1985. The RLC has been on a brief hiatus since the 2009 conference, and we’re delighted to be back and hope you will join us at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme May 2-4.
The RLC Program Committee has designed the following conference tracks:
- Administration - with Thursday, May 3 as Trustee Day
- Services to Individual Populations
- Technology
- Programming and Readers’ Advisory
- Marketing and Advocacy
This year’s keynote speakers include Wednesday night’s speaker and book signing with Bryan Gruley, (http://bryangruley.com/) author of Starvation Lake and The Hanging Tree.
On Thursday morning we’ll hear early literacy consultant Saroj Ghoting (http://www.earlylit.net/) as our morning keynote, sponsored by the Library of Michigan Foundation’s Alice C. Mahoney Fund.
Friday morning’s technology keynote speaker will be Sarah Houghton, who blogs as the “amazingly informed and therefore properly opinionated” Librarian in Black at http://librarianinblack.net.
The goal of the conference is to integrate our current good practices with emerging trends, practices and goals. Registration for the entire conference is $120, with options to attend single days: Wednesday, May 2 for $30, Thursday, May 3 for $60, and Friday, May 4 for $30. Thursday May 3 is also the day we are inviting vendors to join us.
Registration is now open at http://www.solutionwhere.com/lom. You must register for each day you plan to attend and make your meal choices, which are included in the conference fees. You must register separately for your hotel stay at the Grand Traverse Resort. You can do that here: http://grandtraverseresort.com/promocode/index.cfm?promoCode=LOM0412 or by calling 1-800-968-7352 and mentioning Rural Libraries Conference to get the conference rate. A block of rooms varying from $79 to $109 per night has been reserved.
