Genealogy Research Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

 

Identification Requirements: Drivers License or State Identification

 

Certified Copy/Additional: $10.00/$3.00

 

Genealogy Record Copy: $10.00/$3.00

 

Other Copy Fees: n/a

 

Comments: Five genealogists may be served at one time. Children are permitted only under parental supervision.

 

Births: Birth records are not open to public inspection, except those from 1867 to 1900. Records from 1900 to present can be obtained if the person is deceased and proof of death can be shown. The person requesting the information must show proof of relationship to decedent.

 

Deaths: Records from 1867 to 1934 are open for inspection. Records from 1952 to present are not open for public viewing, but certified copies can be obtained. 1934 to 1952 are stored off-site, if requested, records must be retrieved.

 

Marriages: Records from 1819 to 1925 are open for inspection. Records from 1926 to present are not open for public viewing, but a certified copy can be obtained.

 

Divorces: Records are available from 1857 to present. Records from 1857 to 1970 are on microfilm. records from 1857 to 1978 are stored off-site. All other records are available here at Circuit Court.

 

Military Discharges (DD214): World War I to present are available, but not open to public inspection. Must show identification and can only be requested by discharged veteran for own record.

If you find differences between the information here and the practices or holdings of the County Clerk's office, please ask the Clerk to inform the Archives of Michigan about needed revisions.

 

Anne Norlander, Calhoun County Clerk-Register, and Toni Fritz, the Clerk-Register's Administrative Assistant, conducted a survey of offices in 1993 in order to make this information available to the public. Calhoun County printed the 1994 Michigan County Clerks Genealogy Directory, prepared as a product of this inventory. The Archives of Michigan revised this on-line edition of the directory in 2001.
