Michigan's IDEA Public Reporting for Local Educational Agencies

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA) of 2004 requires all states to report annually to the public on the performance of each local educational agency (LEA) located in the state on the targets in the State's Performance Plan (SPP)/Annual Performance Report (APR).
 

Public reporting of district level data regarding students with an individualized education program (IEP) is available on the MI School Data website. MI School Data is a unified website that provides a comprehensive view of all student data for each district. Reports and Resources

IDEA requires each state to:

  • Have in place a combined SPP/APR that evaluates that state's efforts to implement the requirements and describes how the state will improve such implementation. 
  • Report to the public on the performance of each school district and early intervention program/services relative to the targets specified in the SPP/APR [§300.602 (b)(1)(i)(A)]. Some targets are set by the federal government and some are set by the state with input from parents, stakeholders, and educators.
  • Broadly disseminate.
  • Be accessible to individuals with disabilities.
  • Be understandable to the general public.

 

This information provides local districts and communities an opportunity to see what is working well in their special education and early intervention programs and to identify what aspects of those programs are in need of improvement.

The IDEA focuses on special education programs and services from ages 3 through 21 and includes results and compliance indicators. States must report on special education Indicators 1-14. For Indicators 1, 2, and 4, there is a required one year data lag.

  • Indicator 4A - Suspension/Expulsion

  • Indicator 5 - Educational Environments (least restrictive environment)
  • Indicator 6 - Early Childhood Educational Environments: Ages 3-5
  • Indicator 7 - Preschool Outcomes 
  • Indicator 8 - Facilitated Parent Involvement 
  • Indicator 9 - Disproportionate Representation (child with a disability) 
  • Indicator 10 - Disproportionate Representation (eligibility categories) 
  • Indicator 11 - Child Find 
  • Indicator 12 - Early Childhood Transition
  • Indicator 13 - Secondary Transition
  • Indicator 14 - Postsecondary Outcomes
