Kurt E. Krause, Deputy Director, Legal Affairs Administration
Kurt E. Krause is deputy director of the Legal Affairs Administration for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
A practicing lawyer for nearly 27 years, Krause has concentrated much of his practice in the area of health care law and has extensive experience providing advice and counsel to large and complex organizations. He served for a decade in the Office of the General Counsel at Michigan State University, where his work included representation of the Colleges of Human and Osteopathic Medicine and their physicians, as well as the College of Nursing. From 1997 until 2004, Krause served the State of Michigan as an assistant attorney general in the Office of Attorney General, where he worked in the Health Professionals and Health Care Fraud Divisions.
Krause joined the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) in 2004 as the assistant/acting director of its Office of Legal Affairs. In 2009, Krause was appointed chief deputy director of MDCH. In 2011, he returned to the legal arena as the director of MDCH’s Bureau of Legal Affairs.
