April 10, 2009 -- A $38 million investment to reconstruct 6 miles of I-69 in St. Clair County begins on Monday, April 27, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The reconstruction, between the Lapeer/St. Clair county line and Miller Road, includes reconstructing the I-69/Capac Road interchange ramps, improving the Capac Rest Area and rehabilitation of five 5 bridges.
Initially, crews will reduce westbound I-69 to a single lane between the county line and Miller Road in order for crews to install temporary barrier wall for an upcoming traffic shift. In early May, it is expected that all traffic will be using westbound I-69, with one lane open for eastbound and westbound drivers. After the eastbound lanes are reconstructed, all traffic will be maintained on the eastbound side of the roadway in order to expedite the rebuilding of the westbound lanes.
All lanes are expected to be open in early fall 2009.
