April 10, 2009 -- Reconstruction of I-94 in St. Clair County between St. Clair Highway and County Line Road resumes on Monday, April 20, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). The single-lane closure on the westbound side of the freeway is necessary in order for crews to install a temporary concrete median to separate eastbound and westbound traffic. It is estimated that two-way traffic will be sharing the westbound lanes as early as Monday, April 27.
This $34 million investment started in September 2008. Last fall, crews reconstructed 7 miles of the westbound lanes. The project was shut down over the winter months and all lanes were restored. The traffic shift later this month will allow for the closure of the eastbound lanes to expedite construction. All lanes are expected to be opened by early September.
