MDOT to hold public meeting to kick off construction on M-49 in Litchfield

WHAT: Public information meeting to learn more about upcoming construction on M-49 near Litchfield this construction season. There will be a short presentation at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. followed by an opportunity to ask questions of Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and city of Litchfield staff.

BACKGROUND: MDOT will invest approximately $4.2 million to rehabilitate and reconstruct M-49 in 2009. As part of this project, the city of Litchfield is investing approximately $134,000 for their share of the water main betterment cost and streetscape enhancement upgrades. The proposed improvements include resurfacing M-49 from US-12 north to the St. Joseph River, re-alignment of the Genesse Road curve, rehabilitation of the St. Joseph River bridge, and reconstruction of M-49 from the bridge north to M-99. The proposed reconstruction work will include new concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer, water main, sidewalk, and streetscape enhancement amenities.

To learn more about this project, plan to attend the public meeting on April 20.
