April 24, 2009 -- Starting Monday, April 27, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin reconstruction of US-31 in Berrien County. More than 3 miles of northbound and southbound US-31 from the state line to US-12 will be rebuilt, including ramps, culverts and permanent traffic recorders. The $10.8 million project is scheduled for completion on Nov. 13, and there will be single-lane closures and some ramp detours.
Starting Monday, crossovers will be built in the project area to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction throughout the project. Northbound US-31 reconstruction is scheduled to begin May 30, with southbound reconstruction expected to start Aug. 7.
