April 28, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that contracting crews will begin a multi-million dollar bridge replacement project on M-102 (Eight Mile Road) in the communities of Oak Park, Southfield and Detroit. The project entails replacing the bridges that carry eastbound and westbound M-102 (Eight Mile Road) over M-10 (Lodge Freeway) and Greenfield Road.
Scheduled to begin Monday, May 4, the eastbound and westbound Eight Mile Road service drive bridges over M-10 will be closed. Motorists wanting to access M-10 will find posted detours in each direction. The service drive bridges are expected to remain closed until early August.
The bridges that carry mainline Eight Mile Road over M-10 and Greenfield Road will be replaced beginning in early August and ending in early April 2010. During the closure of the mainline bridges, all Eight Mile Road traffic will be diverted to the newly rebuilt service drive bridges.
Included in this $2 million investment is resurfacing 1 mile of M-102 between M-39 (Southfield Freeway) and M-10.
