July 13, 2009 -- With the summer construction season in full swing, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is making every effort to keep the public as informed and safe as possible. In addition to posting important news and safety information to the MDOT Web site, MDOT is using social media networks like Twitter and Facebook to post traffic alerts and construction updates.
MDOT currently has five Twitter sites, including two region-specific and two dedicated to major construction projects. To follow MDOT on Twitter, visit the following: www.twitter.com/MichiganDOT (overall MDOT information); www.twitter.com/MDOT_MetroDet (Metro Detroit); www.twitter.com/MDOT_West (Kent and surrounding counties); www.twitter.com/MDOT_I675 (I-675 project updates, Saginaw County); and www.twitter.com/MDOT_southwest (Kalamazoo and surrounding counties).
To join MDOT's Facebook page, log on to www.facebook.com and search for "Michigan Department of Transportation." MDOT also is posting informational videos to its You Tube site at: www.youtube.com/michigandot.
Visitors on www.michigan.gov/mdot can click the "Share" button found on each page of the Web site to share MDOT information on their own social media pages.
