September 25, 2009 -- State and local officials interested in the relationship between asset management, pavement management and road funding still have a chance to register for the annual Michigan Transportation Asset Management Upper Peninsula Conference on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Upfront & Company in Marquette.

Sponsored by the Michigan Asset Management Council, this year's conference will include presentations on topics such as:

- Building an Asset Management Plan: The ABCs of How to Do it and Examples of What Agencies Have Done

- Putting the Treatment Plan on the Pavement

- Charlevoix County - Taking Asset Management to the Voters, and They Said "YES"

- Applying Preventive Maintenance on the Federal Aid System

- Transportation Funding Task Force (TF2): 9,000 miles, One Year Later

- Small Cities Can Do it Too! Negaunee's Asset Management Plan

- Where do Elected/Appointed Officials Fit in the Asset Management Process?

This year's program includes presentations from several U.P. communities and institutions, including Bob Struck from the Marquette County Board, Russ Williams from the Marquette County Road Commission, Jennifer Thum from Chocolay Township, Dan Czarnecki and Don Larson from the city of Negaunee, and Tim Colling from Michigan Technological University.

The program is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast, and conclude at 2:35 p.m. Registration is $30 for the first participant from public agencies, $20 for each additional participant from the same agency, and $100 each for participants from private companies and consultants. Registration includes breakfast, lunch and all refreshments.

To register, contact Michigan's Local Technical Assistance Program at 906-487-2102. Seating is limited, so register early to ensure participation.

The Michigan Asset Management Council, created in 2002 by the Michigan Legislature, promotes the concept that the transportation system is unified, rather than separated by jurisdictional ownership. The council's mission is to recommend an asset management strategy to the State Transportation Commission and the Michigan Legislature for Michigan's entire transportation system.
