September 28, 2009 -- A smoother ride is in store for motorists using the westbound I-696 service drive in Madison Heights, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT). Crews will begin resurfacing the service drive from Dequindre Road to Couzens Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 1.

Initial work will focus on crews making sidewalks along the service drive compliant with the Americans with Disability Act by constructing ramps. After the sidewalk work, crews will begin working on repaving the 1-mile section with around-the-clock single-lane closures. All lanes are expected to be completed by mid-November.

This $411,000 project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

For up-to-date information on this project, go to the list of statewide lane closures at: www.michigan.gov/drive. Follow MDOT at www.twitter.com/MichiganDOT or visit the "Michigan Department of Transportation" page on Facebook and become a fan.
