BACKGROUND: MDOT has built a new 0.6-mile road, dubbed Jackson Trace Parkway, to link the Michigan Iron Industry Museum in Marquette County's Negaunee Township directly to US-41. The project, which started in October 2008, includes a new 20-space parking lot.
This project is funded by the Michigan Institutional Roads program, a competitive grant program that commits $750,000 annually to build, improve and maintain roads to Michigan institutions. This is the first time the funding has been used for a state museum facility.
