Contact:  Anita Richardson, MDOT Office of Communications, 989-754-0878, ext. 227
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Saginaw

HIGHWAY: I-75

CLOSEST CITY: Saginaw

STARTING DATE: Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: End October 2009

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has begun I-75 Zilwaukee Bridge inspection work in Saginaw County. This project is expected to be completed in six to eight weeks. Crews began setting up for the inspection work, which is now under way, earlier this week.

To accurately assess the overall condition of the Zilwaukee Bridge, MDOT performs a detailed inspection every four years.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Lane closures will be in effect on the far left and far right lanes of northbound and southbound I-75 across the bridge to accommodate this work for the duration of this project. During weekdays, two lanes will remain open in each direction.

Currently, the northbound far right ramp lane is closed.

MDOT will reopen closed lanes at the end of each workday.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: Results from this inspection provide the department with guidance to ensure the most cost effective or "best practice" is used to extend the life of the structure.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
