Last chance to make M-115 the "People's Choice"

Contact:  Bill Shreck, MDOT Director of Communications, 517-749-2977
Agency: Transportation

October 13, 2009 -- There are only a few days left to help the M-115 project in Clare County win a national transportation award. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is asking you to select the M-115 project for the 2009 "People's Choice" award sponsored by AAA, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Voting closes on Oct. 23. You can vote online at the official competition Web site at www.americastransportationaward.org. The award will be announced at the Oct. 25 AASHTO annual meeting in Palm Desert, Calif.

The MDOT project was recognized in September as one of America's 10 best transportation projects in the "innovative management" category of the competition, making it eligible to run for the People's Choice Award. To date, more than 82,000 online votes have been cast in the "People's Choice Award" competition. Michigan is competing against projects completed by state departments of transportation in California, Delaware, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, and North Carolina to be the "People's Choice."
