US-10 road and M-30 ramp closures scheduled

Contact:  Anita Richardson, MDOT Office of Communications, 989-754-0878, ext. 227
Agency: Transportation

COUNTY: Midland

HIGHWAY: US-10 and Eastbound M-30

CLOSEST CITY: Midland

STARTING DATE: Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Friday, Oct. 16, 2009

PROJECT: The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is scheduled to close the eastbound M-30 on ramp to US-10, beginning Thursday, Oct. 15 at 6 a.m. The closure will facilitate ramp construction and paving work. The ramp is scheduled to reopen Friday, Oct. 16, by 6 p.m.

In addition MDOT will set up a series of short-duration road closures on eastbound US-10 at West River Road. The closures are scheduled to begin Friday, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m. Eastbound US-10 will be completely closed for 15-minute intervals, with one-hour gaps between closings, to facilitate bridge beam work. This work is expected to be completed by noon the same day.

This work is part of the $30.7 million project that began in April 2008 to repair 13.3 miles of US-10 and rehabilitate two bridges from Sanford Lake east to the Midland/Bay county line.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: During the two-day ramp closure, which begins this Thursday, M-30 traffic will be rerouted through Sanford to the West River Road on ramp to US-10. Motorists will be detoured via M-30 south to Saginaw Road west, to West River Road north, to US-10.

During the Friday morning US-10 road closures, traffic will be maintained using temporary road signs and posted message boards will inform motorists about the traffic stoppage. Michigan State Police will assist MDOT with traffic maintenance.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: The rehabilitation of US-10 will serve motorists by extending the life of the roadway and bridges. This project will promote safety by improving drainage and guardrails.

MDOT: Working to improve our state roads and bridges.
