"Last brick" ceremony planned for US-41 project in Houghton

WHAT: City of Houghton and Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials will mark the completion of the US-41 (Shelden Avenue) reconstruction project in Houghton with the ceremonial placement of a final brick paver.

BACKGROUND: In coordination with the city, MDOT reconstructed US-41 (Shelden Avenue) in downtown Houghton. This project included replacement of subsurface utilities, construction of brick street and sidewalk, and installation of historical replica lighting, and will be completed by early November. This project has renewed the pavement life, made aesthetic improvements to downtown Houghton, extended the life of the utility systems, and offers increased pedestrian safety.
