November 14, 2007 - - Recently appointed Joint International Bridge Authority (JIBA) board member William W. Sutter was elected chairman today, to lead the bi-national panel in the coming year.
"It's an honor and a privilege to serve the Joint International Bridge Authority, and help support commerce and the communities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario," Sutter said of his election, which took place during the JIBA board's regular meeting.
Sutter, who is the director of Consolidated Community Schools Services in the eastern Upper Peninsula, was appointed to the JIBA board in June by Michigan Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm. He lives in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., with his wife, Kathy.
Current Chairman James McIntyre of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., was elected vice chairman for 2008. The other Canadian representatives on the board are Gerald H. Johnson and Lorie A. Bottos; the other U.S. representatives are Terry E. Carrick and Janis M. Burgess.
The JIBA board also set its 2008 meeting schedule. The board will meet in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., on Feb. 27 and Aug. 20; and in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., on May 21 and Nov. 13.
The six-member JIBA was created in July 2000, which replaced the International Bridge Authority, the former board charged with overseeing operation of the International Bridge.
