Agency: Transportation

May 21, 2008 -- Richard A. Le Blanc of Brimley, the newest appointed member to the Joint International Bridge Authority (JIBA), joined the board in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., for his first meeting today.

Le Blanc, director of security for the Bay Mills Resort & Casino, was appointed for a term expiring at the pleasure of Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm. He succeeds Terry E. Carrick, who resigned.

"I am honored and privileged to serve on the Joint International Bridge Authority," Le Blanc said of his appointment. "With pride and diligence, I will use my education and experience to support and contribute to the established goals and objectives of the Authority, while remaining focused on the valuable and fragile needs of the local community and its economy."

The six-member JIBA was created in July 2000, which replaced the International Bridge Authority, the former board charged with overseeing operation of the International Bridge. The Intergovernmental Agreement for the International Bridge, an accord between the State of Michigan and the Dominion of Canada, formed the JIBA to provide for continued joint management and operation of the International Bridge as a governmental function on a not-for-profit basis.
