May 8, 2009 -- Work to rehabilitate a portion of the roadway deck in the vicinity of the Canadian Arch Truss on the International Bridge is expected to start on May 11. The project is expected to be done by June 26. The $1.1 million (CDN) project to be done by Concreate USL from Bolton, Ontario, will involve removal of the blacktop surface, hydro demolition of the surface of the underlying concrete bridge deck, and placement of a specialized concrete surface course.

Work will be restricted to one lane at a time with two-way traffic maintained via temporary traffic signals on the open lane. Over-width loads will not be permitted on the open lane during the project.

"Every effort has been made to minimize the impact on bridge traffic," said Bridge Engineer Karl Hansen. "The contractor has been given approval to work from daylight to dusk, seven days a week to get the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible."
