Contact:  Bob Felt 989-619-7963
Agency: Transportation

COUNTIES: Emmet/Mackinac

HIGHWAY: I-75 (Mackinac Bridge)

ESTIMATED STARTING DATE: April 9

ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: Late June 2008

PROJECT: The Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) has begun resurfacing the entire northbound side of I-75 on the Mackinac Bridge. The project includes concrete deck and steel joint repairs, and replacement of concrete curb.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Northbound traffic will be shifted to the southbound side from Jamet Street in Mackinaw City to the toll booths in St.Ignace. Two-way traffic will be maintained for the duration of the project. Wide loads will be restricted to crossing only once a day, between the hours of 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution and drive at or below the posted speed when crossing the bridge. Passing will not be allowed.

CUSTOMER BENEFIT: The $3.2 million project includes this 2008 work on northbound I-75 and, in 2009, work on southbound I- 75. Once completed, the life of the deck will be extended by several years and motorists will enjoy a smoother ride.
