December 12, 2008 -- At its Dec. 12 meeting, the Mackinac Bridge Authority Board (MBA) passed a special resolution honoring Ed Reavie for his dedication in working with MBA officials to incorporate the nationally renowned Mackinac Bridge into numerous Straits-area events over the past 30 years. Reavie's work has contributed to the success of these many special events, as well as increased economic activity in the region.

"It is with great pleasure that we honor Ed for helping us preserve Michigan's landmark by increasing traffic and revenue for the bridge, the Upper Peninsula, and the State of Michigan," said MBA Board Chairman William H. Gnodtke. "Mr. Reavie's hard work has definitely helped stimulate economic activity in the Straits area. We are very thankful for his tireless efforts and express our sincere gratitude for his many years of dedication."

For the past 33 years, Reavie has faithfully organized and promoted the popular St. Ignace annual car shows, truck shows, and other special events, including an antique tractor parade. Also, he worked relentlessly to coordinate the Mackinac Bridge 50th Anniversary parade featuring 50 automobiles (one from each year, 1957-2007) last year.

In other business, the MBA Board responded to feedback about the commuter-card program by lowering the deposit required for an existing account from $80 to $50. New accounts will still require a $10 set-up fee and initial deposit of $80. An alternative toll-payment option called "Quick Card" will become available in 2009 once details are finalized.
