BACKGROUND: Vanpooling with MichiVan is a cost-effective alternative for commuters who enjoy the convenience of sharing a ride to work in a friendly environment. Each work day, Michigan's MichiVan program serves approximately 1,600 people and removes more than 1,400 cars from congested roads and parking lots. In a month's time, vanpooling saves an estimated 153,000 gallons of gas, and reduces carbon monoxide in the atmosphere by 8.4 tons.
