Agency: Transportation

April 1, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will soon begin work on the M-25 (Center Avenue) reconstruction project in Bay City. Work will start Monday, April 6, and is expected to be completed by Mid-November. MDOT is scheduled to reconstruct 1 mile of M-25, including pavement replacement, drainage improvements, and signal modernization on M-25 (Center Avenue), from Johnson Street to Livingston Avenue. In addition, aesthetic improvements, including the installation of decorative lighting, will be completed from Madison Avenue to Livingston Avenue.

During construction, M-25 traffic between Johnson Street and Livingston Avenue will be detoured. Southbound M-15 traffic will be maintained without restriction at the M-15 (Trumbull Street)/M-25 intersection. Northbound M-15 traffic will be detoured via Kosciuszko Avenue, M-84 (Washington Avenue), Woodside Avenue, and Trumbull Street. Signs will alert motorists to detours and lane closures.

Eastbound and westbound M-25 truck traffic will be rerouted via M-84, Kosciuszko Avenue, and Pine Road.

Eastbound and westbound M-25 car traffic will be rerouted via M-84, Kosciuszko Avenue and Scheurmann Road.

Business access on M-25 (Center Avenue) between Livingston Avenue and Pine Road will be maintained for the duration of this project via Scheurmann and Pine roads.

Kosciuszko Avenue is also known as Young's Ditch, 22nd Street, and LaFayette Avenue in Bay City.

This $4.3 million will benefit Michigan motorists by increasing traffic safety and improving the overall condition of this highway. MDOT's 2009 reduced highway program strategy focuses on preservation and keeping motorists mobile, informed and safe.
