M-14 bridge repair expected to begin in Wayne County after Independence Day holiday

Contact:  Rob Morosi, MDOT Office of Communications, 248-483-5127
Agency: Transportation

June 26, 2009 -- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) today announced that bridge crews will be mobilizing to begin an important safety upgrade to the bridge that carries eastbound and westbound M-14 over the Rouge River, located east of Sheldon Road, in Plymouth. During a recent inspection, engineers discovered some safety concerns with structural components that need to be addressed. The work, expected to begin after the Independence Day holiday, will require lane closures on eastbound and westbound M-14.

In order to safely make the repairs, both directions of M-14 will have single- and double-lane closures between Beck Road and the I-275 interchange. The lane closures will allow crews to conduct the necessary work on the structure's abutment wall, which helps support the bridge beams.

This $287,000 repair is expected to take at least eight weeks to complete.
