November 16, 2009 -- Reconstruction of US-31 in Berrien County from the Michigan/Indiana state line to US-12 is complete, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is re-opening the northbound and southbound lanes on Friday, Nov. 13.
The project included rebuilding the roadway, ramps and culverts along 3 miles of US-31. Permanent traffic recorders also were installed.
"This section of US-31 was built in the early 1970s with an experimental pavement that has taken a lot of effort to maintain over the past few years," said Paul South, manager of the MDOT Coloma Transportation Service Center. "We're happy to have completed this vital entrance into the state for Michigan motorists and visitors alike."
