November 19, 2009 -- After a 30-year career with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), Brian W. Ness soon will be the state transportation director in Idaho. After an extensive nationwide search, the Idaho Transportation Board today named Ness to serve as its
next director beginning Jan. 11, 2010.
As a MDOT administrator, Ness was responsible for helping the department meet its strategic planning objectives and quality improvement efforts, among many other leadership accomplishments over the years.
"We are very excited for Brian and the state of Idaho," said MDOT Director Kirk T. Steudle. "We are proud that other states recognize the quality of our staff. Brian is an outstanding leader who will be truly missed. His commitment to excellence, professionalism, and
innovative vision of transportation will make him a real asset to the state of Idaho."
Ness will spend the majority of his time over the next several weeks meeting with key stakeholders in Idaho. As he did at MDOT, he will be looking for opportunities to find new efficiencies, improve service delivery, and strengthen interaction with the competent staff at the
transportation department, the Governor's office, and Idaho State Legislature.
"I am looking forward to the challenges that await me in Idaho," said Ness. "I take many great experiences with me from my 30-year career at MDOT, especially the last 12 years in northern Michigan. I have really enjoyed my time here and will miss everyone."
