BACKGROUND: The proposed project includes the complete removal of the southbound Veterans Memorial bridge over I-675. Upon completion, the northbound bridge will carry both northbound and southbound traffic.
Bridge deck replacement and widening existing lanes across the northbound bridge over I-675 are planned, along with the permanent removal of two adjacent loop ramps and bridge approach work on Veterans Memorial Parkway. MDOT also plans to redesign the interchange to create a distinctly urban, diamond-shaped configuration.
The purpose of the reconstruction work is to increase traffic safety and improve the overall condition of this interchange. Public input is sought to help MDOT recognize and address any concerns.
This project is expected to be completed during the 2011 construction season.
